PRODUCED WATER/ OILY WATER TREATMENT & DISPOSAL

The OIM / MARINE Superintendent shall be responsible for ensuring the disposal procedure of all hazardous wastes on the FPSO.


This procedure is authorized by the Technical Manager and approved by the General Manager


The HSE Manager is responsible for the distribution of this procedure and it shall be distributed to all active Ship Operation Manuals. No appendices are linked to this procedure.


With regard to the safety and environmental protection, the OIM has the responsibility on board the FPSO for:

  • Implementing the safety and environmental policy of the company and the FPSO on the basis of international conventions, codes and national legislation;
  • Motivating the offshore personnel in the execution of that policy;
  • Issuing appropriate instructions in a clear and simple manner; and


The O.I.M. has the responsibility to report to the Company and to the FPSO Onboard Representative such defects and other matters which could affect the safe operation of the FPSO or could present a risk of pollution, and which require the assistance of the Company or the FPSO to ensure that they are rectified.

The Maintenance Superintendent/ Chief Engineer is responsible to ensure that all oily water discharge is carried out in accordance with procedure.


All shipboard personnel who are assigned tasks covered by this procedure shall comply accordingly.


PRODUCED WATER/ OILY WATER TREATMENT & DISPOSAL

The ship is equipped with slop- and sludge tanks, in compliance with MARPOL 73/78 Reg. 15 and 17, for retention of oil cargo residues and other petroleum liquid wastes.

Oil or petroleum wastes from the engine room and/or pump room and slop tanks must in no circumstances be discharged into the sea. Such wastes are to be retained on board in designated tanks until discharged to reception facilities. Receipts for delivered slops/sludge must be properly filed together with the Oil Record Book.


CONTROL OF DISCHARGE OF OIL

  • An approved monitoring and control system and oily-water separating equipment are installed on board in accordance with MARPOL 73/78, Regulation 16.
  • Discharges from cargo pump room bilges and/or machinery space bilges must be carried out in strict compliance MARPOL 73/78. 

Use of detergents in the engine room

  • It is of utmost importance that detergents used in the engine room and lead to the bilges is of an approved type which does not interfere with the correct operation of the oily water separator. 
  • A list of detergents to be used in the engine room can be obtained from the technical department at the Company.

Documentation, Filing and Verification

All relevant information regarding the disposal of oil cargo residues and oil or sludge from the machinery space, shall be entered in the Oil Record Book in accordance with MARPOL 73/78, Chapter II, Reg. 20.
