Responsibility And Duties Master

Master is responsible for the duties listed below.

  • SHALL HAVE OVERRIDING AUTHORITY TO MAKE DECISIONS WITH RESPECT TO SAFETY AND POLLUTION PREVENTION EVEN IF THE DECISIONS ARE IN CONFLICT WITH THE COMPANY'S SHIPBOARD MANAGEMENT MANUAL.
  • Shall have overall command of all departments, and is responsible for general operation of his ship
  • To prepare Master Standing Orders and Night orders (when applicable) to ensure full compliance by all watch keepers
  • Implementing the Safety and environmental protection under the Company's Safety Management System.
  • Motivating the Crew for implementing the Company's Safety and Environmental-Protection Policy.
  • Conduct risk assessment and issue orders or implement control measures to manage the identified concerned environmental, occupational health and safety risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and other requirements.
  • Reviewing the Company's Management System and reporting its deficiencies to the management
  • Responsibility for all services on the ship
  • Maintaining order on board the ship
  • Determining date for departure
  • Ensuring safety of navigation.
  • Fulfilment of voyage 
  • Determining the course and speed
  • Operate his ship economically
  • Responsible for all cargo operations
  • Disposition of marine casualties
  • Transmitting emergency distress signals
  • Adopting measures when the radio operator is not on duty
  • Rescuing a ship in distress
  • Giving permission to crew for going ashore
  • Disposition in case of shortage in the manning
  • Preventing stowaways 
  • Carrying out burials at sea 
  • Putting up a muster list and implementing drills
  • Managing shipboard labour
  • Issuing orders for labour after working hours
  • Determine the education, training and guidance (OJT = on the job training) requirements.
  • Shipboard accounts
  • Sending and receiving notices, and making them well-known to all
  • Approved operational control instructions and maintaining important documents
  • Maintaining confidential documents
  • Strictly following foreign laws
  • Adopting measures in contingencies.
  • To check new joiners’ certification according to Company’s Form, C-03 given by the company.
