Responsibility Of 3rd Engineer On Board

Responsibilities: Under the leadership of Chief Engineer and Second Engineer, implementing the requirements of safety management system.   


The Third Engineer is responsible for the management of generators, auxiliary machinery, piping system and equipment in order to ensure them in good working condition at any time, make detailed records and report to the First Engineer.

Be responsible for maintaining and manage the auxiliary diesel engines.


Manage the operation of some of the auxiliary engines inside the engine room (e.g. the air compressor, fresh water generator, fuel oil purifier and other auxiliary system, etc.) to ensure all are in good working condition. Compile a detailed record and report to the First Engineer.


Be responsible for operation, inspection, test and maintenance of the emergency generator and emergency air compressor.  The Second Engineer is responsible to manage the operation of fuel oil nozzles of both main engine and auxiliary engines, ensure they are working effectively and in normal condition.


Whilst the ship is at sea, the Second Engineer works from 2400 to 0400 and 1200 to 1600; Whilst the ship is in port. Be responsible for the inspection, repair and safety work as instruction by the Chief Engineer and First Engineer.


Make up the noon-report everyday noon whilst the ship is at sea and send it to Master, Chief Engineer and Second Officer.

Be responsible for Bunkering, measurement, calculation and statistics of fuel oil. Whilst bunkering fuel and diesel oil, the Second Engineer is required to make necessary measures before bunkering for prevention of oil spillage.
