Responsibility Of 3rd Officer On Board
Responsibility: Implementing the requirements of safety management system. Responsible for manage the life saving, life, fire fighting appliances and flags, sound and light signals apparatus, compile the life-boat and fighting muster list, preventing oil pollution and emergency plan and preparing form of the formalities.
During loading / discharging or repairs, frequently inspect the deck and cargo holds, and understanding the cargo operation progress, if any damaged cargoes are found, should report to the Chief Officer immediately as well as make a detailed record. Frequently check the bow and stern lines, gangway, crane, cooperate with the stevedores to ensure smoothing working. Inspect closely the ship’s repair and pay attention to smoke or fire and prepare the fire fighting facilities and equipment during repairing.
When arrival or departure a port or shifting berth, be responsible for the liaison and communication work in assigned places as instructed by the Master to control the telegraph, check and make sure the operation of the main engine and the rudder are running properly, record all movement and attend on embarking and disembarking the pilot. Prior to sailing and shifting, check and test with the duty engineer all the navigational equipment and communications system inside the bridge, and report to the Master.
While on duty at sea, pay close attention to the ship’s safety to avoid collision, fill in the Deck Log Book correctly, fill in crew list, collect the seaman’s books or shore passes and papers of declaration before arriving or departing from ports.
According with the requirement of Int’l Convention and Company’s SMS document, in charge of the inspection, maintenance of fire-fighting and life-saving appliance.
In charge of training all crew about fire-fighting and life-saving knowledge
The duty time is 0000-0400and 1200-1600 when ship is at sea or in anchorage.
