Supervising the Second Officer for receiving weather report and facsimile timely.

Passage Planning and Routings shall be planned in according with the prevailing weather condition, current factors, ship’s restrictions and characteristics of the current voyage.

In order to dispatch the ship, a most appropriate routing and speed shall be selected as circumstances permitted.

The operational characteristic and condition of the main and auxiliary engines and navigation aids should be adequately familiarized with.

To ensure adequate and effective charts, notices to mariners and necessary nautical publications with detailed data for the current voyage. Routing shall be planned in consideration of keeping a safe distance from all dangerous areas, wrecks, shoals, cable area and shallow bank, narrow channel which will affect ship’s maneuvering characteristics to ensure safety navigation.

Passage planning  

On the beginning of every voyage, the Master shall ensure the sufficient and proper charts and other publications for the voyage, make out the route plan from the departing port to the first calling port, prepare the accuracy, fully and update publications fitting the route range and safety.

After thinking of all relevant information and verifying the voyage plan, the plan line shall be clearly drawn on the relevant charts, for use of duty officers. If change the calling port or other reason to adjust the plan line, shall revise the line before change the course.
2nd Officer should prepared “Passage Planning” from berth to berth, and present to Master for approval and sign.

Passage Planning should incorporated the following items:

  1. Voyage No.; cargo condition; forward and after draft.
  2. Nautical Publication to be referred such as Guide to Port Entry;  Sailing Direction; Tide Table; Pilot and Current Charts and relevant Port Regulations.
  3. Estimate the prevailing weather condition including wind direction and force, current factors, sea and wave status etc.
  4. Way points (indicate Latitude and Longitude).
  5. Total steaming distance and estimated speed.
  6.  Estimated time to enter and change low sulphur oil position (ship position) and   exit from the  SECA.
